Aspen Grange Care Home Residents Discover Joy in Pottery Making

Recently, Aspen Grange took another stride in its commitment to enriching the lives of its residents by introducing a pottery workshop to its already vibrant activity programme!

Led by a talented local potter, the workshop opened the door to the world of ceramics for the residents. This addition to the activities programme is more than just a pastime; it’s a meaningful pursuit with acknowledged therapeutic benefits. The process of molding clay into pottery is known to have a profound impact on mental and emotional wellbeing. It promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and instills a sense of accomplishment—all vital components for the residents’ overall health. By incorporating pottery into their routine, Aspen Grange is reaffirming its dedication to the holistic care of its residents.

Sharon Thompson, Aspen Grange’s home manager, shared her thoughts on the initiative, saying, “Incorporating creative arts into our residents’ lives is pivotal to their wellbeing.” She emphasised the importance of not just learning a new skill but also fostering social interaction and a sense of achievement among the participants.

Resident Morag Bright echoed this sentiment, reflecting on her experience with the pottery session. “Participating in the pottery session was a new experience and something I’ve not done before,” she shared. “It’s not just about learning a new craft; it’s about the laughter, the camaraderie, and the joy of creating something with your own hands.

Sharon further emphasised Aspen Grange’s commitment to offering a diverse range of activities tailored to the interests and abilities of all residents. “The pottery event highlights our commitment to offering a diverse array of activities that cater to the interests and abilities of all our residents, ensuring a stimulating and supportive environment,” she remarked.

At Aspen Grange, it’s not just about providing care; it’s about nurturing a sense of purpose and fulfillment in every resident’s life. Through initiatives like the pottery workshop, they continue to create a community where residents can thrive and discover joy in every moment.
