Aspen Grange residents enjoy intergenerational craft session with local children

Residents at Aspen Grange recently welcomed a special group of visitors as children from Braintree Buttercups joined them for a relaxed arts and crafts session.

The visit brought together residents and young children to decorate wooden spring flower shapes, creating a calm and sociable activity that encouraged conversation, creativity and shared enjoyment.

Moments like these are an important part of life at Aspen Grange. Intergenerational activities help create meaningful connections between different age groups while supporting residents’ wellbeing.

Spending time with children can help reduce feelings of loneliness, stimulate memory and conversation, and lift mood. For residents, the chance to take part in familiar activities such as colouring and crafts can also support cognitive engagement and relaxation.

For the children, visiting the care home offers an opportunity to develop confidence, empathy and understanding of older generations in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Sharon Thompson, registered manager at Aspen Grange said: “Sessions like this are always lovely. It is wonderful to see residents and children spending time together and enjoying something creative. The conversations and connections that happen during these visits are incredibly valuable for everyone involved.”

The team is looking forward to welcoming the children from Braintree Buttercups back again soon for more activities together.
